A Girl Lives Life

Labor day weekend was superb. I started Friday off with possibly the best white wine I’ve ever tasted. Auratus 2003 (Portugal) - this table wine can only be described in one word: Crisp. I mean CRISP! The salespeople said that they hadn’t tried the wine yet, since it was new but that they were told that it has grapefruit tastes with a clean crisp finish, a nice summer wine. They were right on the button. I loved the taste and highly recommend it.

On Saturday I volunteered at Valley Fair for Second Harvest Heartland. They were doing a food drive and the four hours seemed more like eight. It was all worth it though because after my shift was over I went on the Wild Thing twice. I screamed my lungs out and oh what a tension reliever. http://www.valleyfair.com/public/attractions/rides/thrill_rides/wild_thing.cfm

Needless to say, my throat hurt the rest of the day.

Sunday we went to the Minnesota State Fair. I was a little apprehensive after working there on Friday for Second Harvest Heartland. The shear amount of people on Friday made me think that going to the fair with a two year old wouldn’t be a good idea. So we headed out early to get there before the crowd. We all had such a good time. The highlights include:

The Thrivent Builds/ Habitat for Humanity exhibit where we were taken through a home with unsafe conditions and then taken into a home that was built by habitat. It was really inspiring and possible the best display at the fair. Plus the girls got free hats.

The Fox News Booth where we got the Simpson’s photos taken. See below.

The National Letter Carriers Association had a scavenger hunt. The kids had to find 5 other Union organizations and bring something back from their displays. The first 25 got a NALC membership card and a 2006 mint condition dollar coin. Both Helena and Julie got one and the NALC staff fawned over how wonderful my daughters are, which is always a bonus.

Cheese curds and two for one lemonades

So that was last official weekend of summer 2006. We had a great time and now it is back to school.
